Long before viral social media, Keisha the Sket was being passed around London schools as a must-read piece of underground fiction....
Written by Jade LB when she was just 13 years old, Keisha the Sket captured the voices, experiences and creativity of young people in a way few books had before. Years later, its cultural significance was recognised by Stormzy's Merky Books, bringing this influential work into print.
Join author Jade LB and our hosts from Skye Alexandra House as they reflect on writing a generation-defining story, its unexpected legacy, and what it means to see a teenage creation become a published book. In the words of Black Ballad “Keisha the Sket accidentally decolonised Literature”
Jade is a writer and academic, whose work explores Black British life, identity, and decoloniality. Her book, Keisha the Sket—a viral cultural classic, was published by #Merky Books and was the winner of the 2022 BritishBook Awards Discover Book of the Year. Jade is the creator and executive producer of Amazon’s +44 Presents The Noughties podcast. The story of Keisha the Sket explores themes of sexual violence, adolescence and bullying which Jade continues to explore in both academic and speaking capacities.
