Join us for an engaging evening with the author of Good Trouble, in conversation with Mark Hennessy, exploring the powerful links between the Black Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the Catholic Civil Rights Movement in Northern Ireland.

Drawing on extensive oral histories and first-hand interviews, Good Trouble examines the influence of the Selma to Montgomery march on the 1969 Belfast to Derry march. The book is deeply personal for the author, whose parents were active in the U.S. civil rights movement in the early 1960s, with his mother also attending the 1963 March on Washington where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.

Featuring an introduction by award-winning author Julieann Campbell (On Bloody Sunday), the book is based on interviews conducted across Dublin, Belfast, and Derry with key figures from both movements, including Billy McVeigh, Richard Smiley, Dr. Sheyann Webb-Christburg, and Eamonn McCann. Moving beyond a sole focus on Bloody Sunday, Good Trouble also explores pivotal moments such as Burntollet Bridge and the Battle of the Bogside.

The event will include an audience Q&A followed by a book signing.
