LEARN is delighted to support and help publicize the fourth in a series of Community Conversations sponsored by Friday Musings in partnership with the Livonia Historical Society.
Alex Charns, Bentley c/o 1974, leading defender of the Constitution and author of multiple books, returns to his hometown for an evening at Orchid Brunch on September 29 at 7 PM. Mr. Charns has generously decided that proceeds from any book sales during the evening will go to LEARN.
Mr. Charns lists some of his vast legal experience on his LinkedIn profile:
"During the past 40 plus years of law practice in Durham, I've had lengthy and complicated criminal jury trials raising cutting edge social and scientific issues such as race-based traffic stops and photo line-ups tainted by cross-racial identification problems.
I have litigated against the FBI, sued a sitting District Attorney and gone up against police departments, company police and sheriffs; published a book about the FBI and the U.S. Supreme Court; helped argue a clemency case that got a man off Death Row; written scores of appellate briefs and argued state and federal cases; defended people criminally accused of assaulting or resisting police officers, charges brought after the folks were beaten by the police; and represented Durham police employees who were falsely accused of crimes and then wiretapped by their own department."
