About this Event

Calling teens (and adults!) who enjoy atmospheric, puzzle-packed, supernatural page turners and who may or may not (yet!) be aficionados of Edgar Allan Poe! We’re excited to cap off Spooky Town Books with a special event with Diana Peterfreund, author of ELLEN POE: THE FORGOTTEN LORE (ages 12+) and its sequel, ELLEN POE: FOR EVERMORE (ages 12+), two sequential YA novels introducing readers to the life and legend of Edgar Allan Poe through a contemporary teen forced to live with her eccentric aunt in a Poe Museum, haunted by the ghost of Poe himself! The first book was a favorite on this year’s Summer Reading Guide and the newest is set in nearby Baltimore and Richmond, as our protagonist tries to track down the potential killer who has stolen the coded journal through which she communicates with Poe’s ghost.

Diana’s love and knowledge of–dare we say obsession with?!--Poe’s life and work resounds from every page of these slightly spooky mysteries, ready to turn fans of Enola Holmes or those who like codebreaking onto the complex, moody poet himself. Diana will be in conversation with our bookseller, Kai, as the two nerd out on puzzles, ghosts, and how to get new generations excited about dead poets! Their 40-minute conversation will be followed by an audience Q&A before attendees will have a chance to queue up and get books personalized. Additional copies of both books will be available for purchase. The event is targeted at teens, adults, and educators.

Tickets come with a copy of either the first or second book. All attendees must have a ticket.

But when the coded journal that is tied to his spirit disappears from her family’s home, she’s convinced that the founder of a secret Poe society is responsible for the theft. Ellen finds a cryptic note from the woman, Sara High, and sets out on a dangerous quest to track down the family heirloom that takes Ellen from Baltimore to New York City to Richmond and back.At the same time, Ellen’s visions return, more terrifying than ever, and she realizes it's not just the journal that's in danger.
