Join us for a spectacular night of jazz as the Jazz Arts Collective and two outstanding jazz chamber ensembles take the stage. Under the direction of Prof. Robert Shipley, the Jazz Arts Collective—Hope College’s premier large jazz ensemble—brings a dynamic and creative focus to ensemble communication and improvisation. With a flexible wind section and rhythm-driven energy, this elite group delivers electrifying performances that span the full spectrum of jazz.
Joining them are the Jazz Guitar Combo, led by Prof. Lee Heerspink, and the Steps Ahead Jazz Combo, directed by Prof. Tom Lockwood.
These talented jazz chamber ensembles specialize in both classic and contemporary jazz, showcasing the improvisational artistry of Hope College’s finest musicians. Expect an evening brimming with soulful melodies and electrifying solos!
Trumpeter extraordinaire Kerry Moffit will also appear as a special guest artist. During his military career, Kerry Moffit served as the Non Commissioned Officer in Charge of the “Dixie Players,” a New Orleans style traditional jazz group. He has performed with numerous jazz artists including Louis Bellson, Arturo Sandoval, Chuck Mangione, Bobby Shew, and The New York Voices.
