36 Main Rd, Katikati 3129, New Zealand | Tauranga, BP
Katikati Folk Club will be holding an evening of Irish music on Friday 12th September. The opening acts will be songwriter/storyteller/author Colin Urwin from Northern Ireland followed by Eunice Kelly from County Tyrone accompanied by Sheryl Bond.
The main act will be local band The Wild Clovers with special guest, multi-instrumentalist Robbie Laven from Tauranga.
The Wild Clovers is based around the duo of Paul Hoggard and Penny Rowsell, who have been playing together for eighteen years and regularly perform their arrangements of popular Celtic Rock covers, from the traditional to those made popular in more recent times, in pubs and at events around the country. Their music is based around the driving rhythm of the Irish drum, the bodhran, layered with guitars, penny whistle (Irish whistle), accordion and keyboards.
On stage with the band will be Robbie Laven, who is known to all in the music industry and performs regularly with a plethora of bands and ensembles throughout the Bay of Plenty.
Robbie will be playing fiddle, mandolin and whistles… and normally surprises with something else in his virtuoso performances.
Come along for an evening of music and craic!
