About this Event
The Canterbury Biodviersity Network have organised an evening of illustrated talks on the Plant life and Mammals of the Great Stour. We have two special guest speakers for the evening, both experts in their field, Hallie Bryant Rounthwaite, ethnobotanist and and Hazle Ryan, ecologist and conservationist.
Hallie Bryant Rounthwaite is a Canadian ethnobotanist with an MSc from the University of Kent, in partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. They are the supervisor of the Franciscan Gardens, a 1.5 acre heritage site and secret garden in the heart of Canterbury. Hallie's talk will cover the botany of chalk streams, focusing on the many exciting plants in the river Stour!
Hazel works as a Conservation Officer for the Wildwood Trust specialising in small mammals. She has been breeding water voles and dormice for reintroduction for over 20 years and teaches courses in small mammal identification, ecology, conservation and handling. She is also a Trustee for Kent Bat Group and Small Mammal Survey Co-ordinator for Kent Mammal Group. Her talk will highlight the many mammal species that use the Great Stour both by day and night and why this habitat is important for them.
