These words are the compass by which I navigate these murky waters called the music biz. Usually, I play drums. But I also like writing songs, sharing them, talking about them, and singing them with my friends. When given the opportunity to sit down in a quiet space with an attentive audience, like at Godfrey’s, I’m gonna do that. In addition, I’m gonna bring some heavy hitters who I call friends to drive it home. Hezekiah Jones & Eve Sheldon are two of the best.
Eve Sheldon, perhaps best known for their work with The Wilders (Kansas City, MO) writes songs with a natural fluidity that ring instant classic. Just ask George Jones. George voted “Hey Little Darlin’” to number one on the Independent Music Awards songwriting contest. When not directing a choir or professional caroling in Times Square, Eve also plays banjo with Manatawny Creek Ramblers. In Eve’s own words, “I like to think that, when you listen to my songs, my singing and playing style could come from any time...60 years ago, 30 years ago, or the present day. I love music of all types and from all eras, and I truly believe that good music is good music, no matter who wrote it, who sang it, or when it was done. I try to make that kind of music :)”
Philadelphia’s Hezekiah Jones (Raphael Cutrufello) writes songs and leads a band with whole-hearted love and captivating mystery that draws you in like the crackling glow of an ancient hearth in the bleakness of February in Delco. Cupcakes For The Army is at the top of my Desert Island playlist, no question. Hezekiah Jones (the band) is a collection of Philadelphia-area artists orbiting around the songwriting talents of Raphael Cutrufello. Since 2006, Cutrufello has been writing and recording albums with his extended-extended musical family of Joneses. Bruce Warren, Program Director for WXPN, says "Raph is one of the most creative, most unique, and has a real singular voice and vision for his music."
