About this Event
Join Us for An Afternoon with Laura Krieger Emack!
Get ready for an inspiring in-person hangout with Maine-based author Laura Krieger Emack. She will be in store signing her two novels. Twins: A Coming-of-Age Novella is a story set in Bangor, and her newest release, One Wish: A Tale of Reckoning After 9-11, is an emotional novel written in remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
About the Book
A sudden summons to hometown Cleveland ruptures Sandra’s Manhattan routine where she serves as inhouse counsel for a health insurer. Sandra reluctantly agrees to spend ten days caring for her declining sister-in-law Janine while her brother conducts a prestigious reporting assignment of national consequence.
Greg wouldn’t reveal his overseas destination, so Sandra scours his home office for clues to the mystery. She discovers that he has been assiduously studying Arabic. With the third, awful anniversary imminent, she surmises that Greg’s investigation involves the events of 9-11.
Contrary to the boredom Sandra dreaded, she enjoys Janine’s eclectic entourage. But when Greg returns to Cleveland and shares confidential details, her inner world shatters. For nobody knows that sensible Sandra harbors an enchanted memory involving a certain Egyptian foreign student, whose reappearance couldn’t possibly mean what Greg’s notes prove.
The Sandra who says adieu to Janine and returns to Manhattan is a transformed being - warmer, more exposed, easier for you the reader to like.
About the Book
She was eighteen, about to jump out of a birthday cake.
He was sixty, the man she was supposed to impress.
Neither expected what came next.
When Katie Monahan, a big-dreaming high-school senior with no real friends and a dead grandmother she still talks to, agrees to a reckless scheme to earn two hundred dollars, she ends up naked, terrified, and at the mercy of strangers. But the birthday boy, Ralph, surprises her. He is gruff, quietly grieving, and carrying a guilt of his own. The woman he should have loved. The life he should have lived. The hand he should have held.
She was his great love's granddaughter.
He was the grandfather Katie never had.
Told across a single unforgettable night in rural Maine, Twins is a novella about the people who shape us after they are gone, the family we claim for ourselves, and the moment a stranger looks you in the eye and chooses you.
Funny, tender, and unexpectedly moving. Perfect for readers who loved A Man Called Ove, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
