Welcome to An Afternoon with Eric Dozier: A Musical Journey to Racial Justice! Join us at the Ben May Main Library - Mobile Public Library, Bernheim Hall for an unforgettable experience. Equal parts live performance, lecture, and revival meeting, I’ll Take You There: Musical Journeys To Racial Justice is a unique way of experiencing the impact of music on American culture, identity and social progress. Through his wealth of experience working with groups of all ages and his signature blend of Down and Dirty Blues, Socially Conscious Soul, and Spirit Fueled Gospel Music, cultural activist and musician Eric Dozier takes you on a journey as he shines a light at the crossroads of music and American race relations by performing songs and discussing key musical figures and themes from the Abolitionists, Civil Rights, labor & anti-war movements, as well as other contemporary voices of change both within the US and internationally. By the end, participants understand what it means to be an active and creative advocate of diversity and equity imbued with a renewed sense of mission and commitment to Showing the world what community SOUNDS like.
Eric Dozier is a keynote speaker, cultural activist, composer, and anti-racism educator that uses music to engage communities in dialogue about racism and move them towards healing and racial reconciliation. He is the Founder and CEO of Mobile Soul Café, a dynamic event production company, publishing platform, and online community dedicated to providing creative, forward thinking, spiritually focused content and tools to those dedicated, and oftentimes weary warriors engaged in the work of racial justice. He is the historian and co-composer of the internationally award-winning and Broadway bound production The Ballad of Henry “Box” Brown, has served as the musical director for the World Famous Harlem Gospel Choir, developed curriculum for the National Museum of African American Music, and has been a featured artist at the United Nations on several occasions, sharing the stage with the likes of Harry Belafonte, Angelique Kidjo, and even Nelson Mandela. His wealth of experience working with diverse groups of all ages, combined with his signature unique blend of Down and Dirty Blues, Socially Conscious Soul, and Spirit Fueled Gospel Music, has allowed him to travel the world building pockets of peace, while shedding light on the powerful, inspiring journey of Black Americans and fulfilling his mission of "Showing the world what community SOUNDS like!"
