An afternoon of discussion exploring how to transform an unequal Britain

If the Labour Government is to fulfil the hopes of the millions of voters who sparked the 4 July landslide and reduced the Tories to a rump it will need to reverse the massive societal imbalances caused by inequality and austerity. How?

Our autumn afternoon of participative discussion opens with a unique combination of two of the best writers on the causes and effects of inequality who together will help us to explore how to transform an unequal Britain.

In her new book The Only Way Is Up: How to Take Britain from Austerity to Prosperity Polly Toynbee gives us a ready reckoner on the the damage caused by 14 years of Tory government and the options towards setting the UK on a path of sustainable growth for all.
Danny Dorling in his new book Peak Injustice : Solving Britain's Inequality Crisis explains the part living with high rates of inequality plays in understanding the ways in which we reached a society founded on 'peak injustice'.
Following Polly and Danny's opening talks we divide into small groups for extended Q&A's with each that fill the bulk of the afternoon.

To close, a question-time panel of food poverty and housing campaigners with councillors at town, district and county levels to discuss policies and actions to tackle inequality at the local level as well as the national.
