Amusement Dark: Three Novels

Join writer Matthew J. Trafford (Runs in the Blood) in conversation with three novelists whose new books combat life’s darkest experiences with humour, the surreal, and even the supernatural. Doretta Lau’s debut novel, We Are Underlings, unfurls into a mysterious black comedy about the people who work at a theme park devoted to death, dying, and the afterlife. Fellow debut novelist Daniel Zomparelli brings us Super Castle Fun Park, in which Dario gives palliative care inside a themed hotel, while his boyfriend is stuck at home plagued with strange visions, and an ornery medium named Chelsea trolls misfits online. Veteran novelist Anakana Schofield will discuss her Library of Brothel, a strikingly original work about a surreal building standing alone in a city of jobless, lonely people. Come celebrate the magic of human connection with literature that dares to laugh and uplift in the face of despair and isolation.

Free parking is available on side streets (Moss Street, Linden Avenue, and Fort Street), as well as the Central Middle School parking lot on Fort Street. Please abide by parking signs; do not park where it is posted Residential Only, as you may be ticketed. Please give yourself plenty of time to find parking before your event.
