Join us for an engaging lecture exploring the fascinating world of sacred objects, tattoos, and spiritual practices in Thai Buddhism through an anthropological perspective.
This presentation will examine the historical background, meanings, functions, and evolving roles of amulets, sacred tattoos, and other religious objects that have long been part of Thai Buddhist culture. Participants will also explore how Buddhism, Animism, and elements of Hinduism have blended together within the Thai religious context.
Presented by Ajarn Nong (Amnuaypond Kidpromma, PhD), Assistant Professor in Religious Studies at Chiang Mai University, whose research focuses on vernacular Hinduism and popular Buddhism in South and Southeast Asia.
