At the heart of Haumi creative process is the concept of ruku i te pō, ruku i te ao – a framework that reflects the journey toward understanding, guided by the enduring and dynamic characteristics of the world around us.

This philosophy centres on the cyclical nature of the taiao and its immutable influence to shape and define who we are. It challenges us to traverse the realms of darkness and light, states of consciousness, and the spaces between the known and the forgotten. It reminds us of our woven realities and that nothing exists in isolation.

In this presentation, Karl will explore these foundational ideas, illustrating how they guide the pursuits of Haumi and the generation of value – whether personal or public; social, cultural, or environmental. He will explain how creativity and culture serve as vessels that maintain continuity, strengthen connection and identity (personal and collective), and enable transformative approaches, while maintaining responsibility for mana tuku iho.
