Lyndon Johnson took over the presidency in November, 1963 after JFK’s assassination. He also took over the handling of the crisis in Vietnam, which America had been dealing with since the late 1940s. Presidents Eisenhower and Kennedy seemed unsure how far we should get involved. By the summer of 1964, the Gulf of Tonkin incident would change everything and set our nation on a course towards a war we did not want. Please join MCC Professor of History Mark Sample as he tells the story of the people and the actions that brought on one of the most divisive events in American history.
