About this Event
Join us as we close out NIHCO's 30th anniversary season with "American Salute," a free pops concert! Come enjoy a musical tribute to the U.S. by Morton Gould, selections from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein, and a magnificent medley of the songs made famous by the great Louis Armstrong.
As a special treat, we'll also perform selections from two concertos: a Camille Saint-Saens piano concerto, featuring NIHCO member Hon-Cheong Chan, and a Mozart flute concerto, featuring NIHCO member Ellen Ensel.
The program:
- Satchmo! A Tribute to Louis Armstrong
- Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart — Rondo: Allegro from Flute Concerto No. 2 in D major
(Ellen Ensel, flute) - Morton Gould – American Salute
- Camille Saint-Saëns – Andante Sostenuto from Piano Concerto No. 2 in G minor
(Hon-Cheong Chan, piano) - Leonard Bernstein – Highlights from West Side Story
The concert will take place at the Cokie Boggs Roberts '60 Theater, in the Mater Center (see photo below) at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Md. Plenty of free parking is available.
As always, the NIHCO gratefully accepts donations for orchestra operations and NIH charities.
