Sunday Trash Splash – Underwater Can Cleanup!📍 American River – Gristmill River Access to Watt Ave📅 Sunday | Meet at 8:30 AM at Watt to form shuttles | On the River by 9 AM at Gristmill
Join us for a fun and impactful cleanup event on the beautiful American River! Over the years, cans and other debris have piled up beneath the surface — it's time we take action and give back to this special place. 🌊 We removed 623 cans, 2 tires and other debris with a modest crew on Thursday, but there are thousands of cans still polluting the bottom of the river, along with plastic, textiles and other inorganic debris!
We're calling all: 💚 Strong Divers 💚 Strong Snorkelers 💚 Strong Swimmers 💚 Boaters with paddles/propulsion 💚 Strong first mates to operate ropes, nets and utilize their core strength. Divers and Swimmers will need quality diving masks AND fins for safety and navigation in the current.
We’ll float, paddle, dive, and clean from Gristmill River Access down to Watt Ave Access, where we have permission to exit the river. It’s a great way to cool off, connect, and clean up!
🕗 Meeting Time & Place: 📍 8:30 AM – Park and meet along La Riviera Drive near Watt Ave 🚐 Meet friends and form shuttles to Gristmill (less than 15 minutes away) Free parking passes available
🛶 What to Bring:✔️ Your own paddle craft (kayak, SUP, canoe, raft) — OR✔️ Ride in a large raft provided by American River Raft Rental✔️ Swimsuit, Mask, Snorkel, Fins, Water shoes✔️ Sunscreen, drinking water, and snacks✔️ Gloves (optional, but helpful) ✔️ Fishing and/or Diving nets
Be ready to get wet, have fun, and make a difference! 🥽
📌 Important Notes:⚠️ Age Limit: Not suitable for children under 14. Youth 14+ welcome with responsible adult supervision.✍️ All participants must sign a Release & Waiver form. Participation is at your own risk. Please prioritize your safety and only do what you feel comfortable doing.
