About this Event
American Muslims Chicago Community Screening
Join for an exclusive community screening of two episodes of . American Muslims is a landmark PBS series of short documentary films that reveal and explore the untold histories of Muslims in the United States. This 12-part series weaves vital moments in U.S. history with the unexpected but essential stories of Muslims whose lived experiences offer new insight into how race, religion and nationality are intertwined in the American fabric.
At Pillars, we recognize the sheer power of transformative storytelling to create
a more just and equitable world. That is why we are proud to be an early funder of this project and to see two of our Muslim Narrative Change Fellows - Zaheer Ali and Maytha Alhassen - as executive producers. Additionally, dozens of other Pillars community members are advisors and supporters of this film.
Our screening will be taking place at the historic, DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center a Chicago community institution and the first non-profit Museum dedicated to the collection, documentation, preservation, study and the dissemination of the history and culture of Africans and African Americans.
This event is a fantastic opportunity to gather with fellow Chicagoans and watch a historic docu-series together. The screening will be followed by a panel featuring members of the American Muslims team and a reception.
