Aspiring tap dancer Bill “Corky” Williamson (legendary performer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson) meets up and coming singer Selina (Lena Horne) when he returns home after serving in World War I. When the young lovers are separated by their career ambitions, the pair find themselves with one last chance to be together at a star-studded musical show. Featuring more than 20 musical numbers with performances from great talents like Cab Calloway, the Nicholas Brothers, and Fats Waller, Stormy Weather is an unforgettable tribute to Black artistry in the face of Hollywood exclusion. This screening will be preceded by a musical performance from the MU Jazz Combos and followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Megan Murph, Director of Budds Center for American Music Studies, Dr. Maya Gibson, Assistant Teaching Professor of Women’s and Gender Studies, and Dr. Sam Griffith, Associate Teaching Professor of Jazz.
