About this Event
We are honored to welcome Venerable Thubten Damcho and Venerable Thubten Dekyi from Sravasti Abbey in Washington state for a special evening of Dharma teachings and meditation on the timely topic: Compassion in the Modern World.
In our fast-paced, often divided world, how can we keep our hearts open and our actions kind? Drawing from the Tibetan Mahāyāna Buddhist tradition, the Venerables will explore how compassion is not only possible—but essential—amid today’s challenges.
Join us for this rare opportunity to sit with and learn from two fully ordained bhikshunis:
Venerable Thubten Damcho (Singaporean) encountered the Dharma while at Princeton University and went on to receive full ordination in Taiwan. A close student of Venerable Thubten Chodron, she teaches internationally and contributes to translation projects such as 84000: Translating the Words of the Buddha.
Venerable Thubten Dekyi (American) found Buddhism through the teachings of Venerable Thubten Chodron and has devoted her life to spiritual practice, monastic service, and environmental care, drawing from her background in natural resource management.
Whether you're new to Buddhism or have an established practice, this evening offers a heartfelt and practical exploration of how to live with compassion, clarity, and courage.
Open to all. No prior experience necessary.Free admission. Donations welcome.
Bonus! The Venerables will also be teaching at the Georgia Buddhist Camp from September 5–7. For details and registration, visit: georgiabuddhistcamp.com
Come experience wisdom, compassion, and community. We look forward to seeing you!

Join us for an enlightening Dharma talk with Geshe Ngawang Phende, a renowned teacher from the Drepung Loseling Monastery, who will guide us on transforming negative emotions. Meditation and mindfulness is a tool to help us on the path towards relieving the sufferings of life by changing our mindset, discovering our inner self, and realizing reality.
Usually the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm is the talk (~ 1 hour), followed by meditation (~ 15 minutes).
One Sunday of the month is basic guided meditation at 2pm.
Next: August 3 @ 7:30pm, August 6 @ 2pm, September 3 @ 7:30pm (special visiting guest American Buddhist nuns from Sravasti Abbey!), and Sep 14 @ 2pm
All are welcome to all of these events, in English.
