As America turns 250, experience Kansas’s rich history and innovation and discover its role in our nation’s story. We’ll begin at the Kansas State Capitol, which recently completed a 13-year restoration uncovering murals, preserving original features, and expanding workspace. Guided by the Kansas Historical Society, guests will enjoy a tour highlighting the building’s architecture, artwork, and role in state government. Next is the Dome Tour—climb 296 steps (if you can) for panoramic views of Topeka. After an exciting morning, enjoy an Italian buffet lunch at 785 Beer Company featuring Caesar salad, lasagna, fettuccini alfredo, garlic bread, and sopapilla cheesecake bars—a relaxed time to connect before afternoon tours. Then explore Kansas stories at the Kansas Museum of History, with award-winning exhibits on colorful characters and everyday folks. See a Cheyenne tipi, a covered wagon ready for the Oregon Trail, a 1950s diner, and an 1880 locomotive from the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. Conclude at the Combat Air Museum, an educational institution for over 47 years. Located on an active airfield, visitors often witness live flight activity, including fighter jets, helicopters, and refueling tankers. Inside, explore aviation history from the earliest days of flight to the present, surrounded by historic aircraft and exhibits. This American 250 day trip blends government, heritage, and aviation, offering a well-rounded look at Kansas’s past, present, and future—all in one engaging day.
