Support Amara’s fight against leukemia! Amara’s family invites the community to join them for a day of family fun while we gather together to raise money for Amara’s fight.
Amara is a local Smithsburg girl who was diagnosed with Leukemia on 6/12/24. When Amara first began treatment she was categorized as “low risk”. After 4 weeks of chemotherapy it was determined that she is not responding quite how the doctors want her to. She is now categorized as “high risk” and is to be receiving aggressive chemotherapy treatment for the next 10 months (if her body can tolerate the 10 month schedule), in addition to a two year maintenance period.
Amara receives her treatment at children’s national hospital in Washington DC and Rockville, MD. Donations from this fundraiser will help offset the burden of gas and vehicle maintenance related to frequent trips down the road.
Amara requires more attention than an average 5 year old now. Her mother works tirelessly to ensure that Amara’s home environment is as clean as possible. Her bed linens and blankets are changed daily. She requires frequent vital signs checks in addition to reminders to eat and drink, even when her little body tells her she can’t. Amara’s mother resigned from her dream job to stay home and take care of her, without a second thought. Donations from this fundraiser will help offset the financial strain of living in a one income household during the challenge of fighting leukemia.
