A Friends of St Mary's talk by author Christina Hardyment
About this Event

In 1431 Geoffrey Chaucer’s only granddaughter Alyce married William de la Pole, Duke of Suffolk, who came from a family of Hull merchants.

They lived at Ewelme, in Oxfordshire, which they transformed using the de la Pole’s expertise in building in brick.

Alyce’s splendid tomb in Ewelme church inspired Christina Hardyment to research into her life and write a series of history mysteries centred on William’s brutal M**der in 1450.

Christina’s talk will examine what we know and what we can imagine about Alyce, emphasising the de la Pole’s Hull connections and the part they played in Alyce’s life.
