One of the biggest breakout successes of the new millennial emo-punk explosion, Hawthorne Heights has since endured unimaginable personal tragedy, numerous lineup changes, and a landscape of shifting musical styles to finally emerge with a captivating story to tell. The Ohio-based band has perfectly honed their particular brand of angst-fueled pop-punk, which slowly invaded rock radio with the hit single, “Ohio is for Lovers.” Frontman JT Woodruff’s songwriting unravels themes of both physical and emotional distance as well as personal identity, allowing him to push down heartache and strife long enough to rediscover the intangible characteristics that make Hawthorne Heights.
“We want to create the best songs that are accurate depictions of our lives and connect to other people through our songs,” Woodruff says, choosing to focus now on writing big songs in the life-changing sense, rather than gaming for radio spins or other metrics. Hawthorne Heights fans have responded, showing up to the band’s exhilarating live shows, inking their bodies with lyric tattoos, and clinging to the songs to help get them through their own life challenges.
