ALPHABUZZ: Children's Workshop Registration & Mailing List

Folks Love to Print! and printing is a powerful key in the development of literacy. The AlphaBuzzzz project explores how a simple printing press can be used to encourage learning about alphabets, books, and literacy. AlphaBuzzzz is a program of the Virginia Humanities Virginia Center for the Book.

The Center for the Book can provide a simple traveling printing press, educational activities, and supportive instruction for using this tool in the classes or educational activities of public and private schools, libraries, and clubs and organizations in our community.

The BookBeetle is a sturdy desktop printing press modeled on the original Gutenberg-style screw press.
The press is completely friendly, with no pinching hazards.
Its use is straightforward and very easy to master.
Materials used with the press are non-toxic and can be cleaned up with soap and water.

Aplhabuzzzz Workshop with Children – Saturday, March 15, 2025
A free drop-in workshop for the community that encourages children to attend will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Virginia Center for the Book in the Jefferson School City Center, downtown Charlottesville.
This workshop will feature BookBeetle Press and many educational activities developed for students of all ages.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on printing activities using the BookBeetle.
