About this Event
Industrial policy has returned to the global stage, significantly shaping the future of the US alliance network in the Indo-Pacific. Amid mounting geopolitical risks, pandemics, and climate change, governments everywhere are actively seeking strategies to address potential national security risks linked to economic interdependence and trade fragmentation. Recent disruptions to global supply chains have prompted the United States and its allies, including South Korea and Japan, to explore and enact economic security measures to protect their global manufacturing networks. Against this backdrop, South Korea has emerged as a significant player, with its leading global technology firms driving innovation in industries such as semiconductors.
On November 15, 2024, AU SIS’s Korea in Global Affairs Initiative will convene thought leaders, policymakers, scholars, and experts to explore these pressing issues through three focused panels.
• How are governments and companies in the US, South Korea, and Japan navigating the diversification of high-tech supply chains amidst the tensions between Washington and Beijing?
• How are governments adapting their policies to shape evolving relationships with global technology companies?
• How do escalating cybersecurity threats shape interstate cooperation, and what role does the private sector play in managing alliances in response to these challenges?
• How does the strategy of “ally-shoring” impact the dynamics of the US alliance network in the Indo-Pacific region?
