Join us for our next quarterly members meeting! The event will begin promptly at 2:30PM with remarks from NVBA board members and staff regarding business of the organization. After member business is concluded, our feature presentation will begin.
Ever walk on a beach south of here on the U.S. east coast in winter? You may come across a wintering Piping Plover, a Near-Threatened species. Fewer than 4000 breeding pairs are believed to exist. Join Robin Duska to learn about this charismatic species and how to identify and report individual birds to the dedicated banding teams working for Piping Plovers’ breeding safety and population recovery.
About the Speaker:
After working for the U.S. Government and United Nations in 10 countries, Robin Duska now focuses on environmental volunteering and birding. Since 2016, she has assisted scientists managing the bird specimen collection at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. A Fairfax Master Naturalist who previously served on the NVBA board and co-directed the Wildlife Sanctuary Program, Robin particularly enjoys the birds in her own back yard as well as leading local bird walks for NVBA, Reston Association, and at Riverbend and Great Falls Parks. She also enjoys traveling locally and internationally to see and listen to birds.
The program begins at 2:30 PM, but members are welcome to arrive at 2:00 PM for refreshments and mingling.
