Allan Jones, former editor of Melody Maker and Uncut magazine, shares hilarious/hair-raising backstage tales from the golden age of rock journalism, from his life on the road with Lou Reed, Elton John, REM, Sting, the Rolling Stones, The Clash, The Smiths, Elvis Costello and many others.
Allan's career in the music press spanned a golden age, when rock and pop were full of larger-than-life characters only too happy to take music writers on tour, giving them access not just to iconic shows around the world but to long nights of booze, bad behaviour and unguarded conversations, too.
Allan's first collection of rock yarns, 2017's 'Can't Stand Up for Falling Down', was Sunday Times' Music Book of the Year. Last year's 'Too Late to Stop Now' was similarly acclaimed.
Allan will be sharing some of the stories he printed over the years (and some he couldn't/didn't) in conversation with Duncan Steer.
The event will run 7.30pm-9.30pm including an interval and there will be a chance to ask your own questions. Tickets are £13 or £11 for members.
