UNESCO Creative City Bid – Developing a Music Plan

Hull is bidding to become a UNESCO Creative City in 2025, and we are specifically bidding to be recognized as a Music City!

To meet the criteria for this bid, we need to develop a four-year music plan, and we need your input to make it happen!

Join us on Wednesday, October 2nd, in the Mortimer Suite at Hull City Hall. Be part of shaping a music plan that will be integral to the new culture strategy for our city.

The UNESCO Creative City designation is an international award and network that promotes cooperation among cities recognizing creativity as a strategic factor for sustainable urban development. Nearly 300 cities worldwide are part of this network, working together towards a common goal: placing creativity and cultural industries at the heart of their development plans and fostering international collaboration.

By joining this network, cities commit to:

• Strengthening international cooperation between cities that see creativity as key to sustainable development.
• Stimulating and enhancing initiatives to make creativity a core component of urban development, through partnerships involving the public and private sectors and civil society.
• Supporting the creation, production, distribution, and dissemination of cultural activities, goods, and services.
• Developing hubs of creativity and innovation and expanding opportunities for creators and cultural professionals.
• Improving access to and participation in cultural life, especially for marginalized or vulnerable groups and individuals.
• Fully integrating culture and creativity into local development strategies and plans.

The objectives of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network are achieved at both the local and international levels through:

• Sharing experiences, knowledge, and best practices.
• Pilot projects, partnerships, and initiatives involving the public and private sectors and civil society.
• Professional and artistic exchange programs and networks.
• Studies, research, and evaluations on the experiences of Creative Cities.
• Policies and measures for sustainable urban development.
• Communication and awareness-raising activities.
