Joining this class, you will experience a four hour workshop, learning to paint an expressive portrait of a person using an oil painting method called “Alla Prima”, meaning: wet-on-wet. The man in the photo has basic shapes, shadows, value, form and warm/cool colors to help develop simple skills and encourage overcoming the fear of oil paints drying much slower.In this session, you will learn:
- How to paint a portrait in layers with wet paint.
- Starting dark to light to remain more consistent and help avoid an uneasy paint flow.
- Layering paint and blending.
- To focus on values and shapes.
*This workshop is for intermediate artists who have basic knowledge of painting. This is not for complete beginners.
SUPPLIES INCLUDED in tuition:
- Double-primed 8×10 canvas
- Sturdy table easel
- Lavender spike oil (paint thinner)
- Linseed oil
**The full supply list will be provided upon registration. You will need to bring your own paint, brushes, an a few extras.

ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Mrs. Moore started prioritizing art at about 13 years old; she would draw on a phone digitally and as she got older, began to paint digitally on a graphic display using a drawing program.
Throughout her exploration of the digital world, she became a professional digital artist, but curiously chose to explore with acrylic painting three years ago after her husband encouraged and suggested she try. She attempted multiple different hand mediums such as watercolor, colored pencils, charcoal, etc. But ended up falling in-love with oil painting.
The years of learning to digital paint, using the basic skills necessary to understand techniques such as drawing, shapes and value — she was able to successfully self teach herself into oil painting by pushing through the fear of smudging and working with lengthy wet paint and did deal with trial and error to learn fairly quickly. She now paints expressive portraits of people & animals, occasionally landscapes.
With a clearer understanding of oil painting methods and mediums, she is ready to start teaching other artists looking to expand their knowledge and skill from what she has learned in the last three and a half years of her hand-painting experiences.
Skyye was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri but is now living in South Carolina and seeking to pursue art as a full-time job.
