This Spring we have partnered with local professors to bring an all new season of of our Prof Picks Series back to the Ambler! Local professors and experts curate a film for the big screen, introduce the movie and then, after the film, they host a post movie Q&A in the theater! The Series returns in April with the great Fosse Biopic ALL THAT JAZZ. Selected and presented by Dr. Thomas Powers, Professor of English at Montgomery County Community College. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: Legendary choreographer and director Bob Fosse’s loosely autobiographical film based on his life. Roy Scheider delivers a powerhouse performance as the director of a Broadway production whose workaholic lifestyle is punctuated by a substance abuse problem that allows him to keep up with his various relationships and demanding career. This wildly imaginative musical with dazzling dance numbers is one of the most creatively ambitious films of the ‘70s. All That Jazz was nominated for 9 Academy Awards, won the Palme d’Or and even had Stanley Kubrick calling it “the best film I think I have ever seen.”
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿: Dr. Thomas Powers teaches English at Montgomery County Community College, where he has recently developed and taught a course on the graphic novel. He is also the author of Gender and the Quest in British Science-Fiction Television: An Analysis of Doctor Who, Blake’s 7, Red Dwarf and Torchwood (McFarland, 2016) and has composed numerous articles for the Eisner-Award-winning Back Issue! magazine, which specializes in Bronze Age comics history.
