About this Event
Deep in the heart of Elizabeth Township, New Jersey, on a shadowy
stretch of Broad Street, lies a hidden gem steeped in American
history—and haunted by spirits. This mysterious parcel of land cradles
the historic Snyder Academy, the very institution that laid the
foundation for what would become Princeton University. But this is no
ordinary historical site. Here stands a church first built in the 1660s,
later rising from the ashes as the First Presbyterian Church in 1718,
after being twice reduced to rubble by flames. Its surrounding
cemetery whispers of the past, with gravestones dating back to 1687,
marking the final resting place of over two thousand souls. Among
them are war heroes from seven different conflicts, and until recently,
the forgotten mass graves of over 313 enslaved and free African
ancestors—now honored through the 313+ Ancestors Speak project.
On Saturday, October 26th, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m., the gates of this
eerie site will creak open for "All Hallow's Eve: Haunted Historical
Walk," a chilling fundraising event to support the restoration of the
Snyder Academy. For the first time ever, the black wrought iron fence
that encloses this sacred ground will be unlocked, inviting you into a
world where history and the supernatural intertwine. Under the cloak
of night, the past will awaken as spirits rise to tell the haunting tales of
their lives and the indelible marks they left on American history. This
spine-tingling 55-minute walking tour is brought to you by Haunted
History Productions, masters of turning the past into an unforgettable,
spine-chilling experience.
Tours depart every 15 minutes 5:30-8:00pm Street parking is free and there is a parking deck directly adjacent to the Snyder Academy.
