ALL ABOUT CARNE! 🍗🐖🇮🇹
From the Macelleria to the Trattoria
Language, Culture, Grammar & Real-Life Italian ✨
Un etto. Due etti. Mezzo chilo. A whole conversation waiting behind the counter. 🤌🇮🇹
Imagine stepping into a neighborhood macelleria somewhere in Italy.
Behind the glass are steaks, chicken, sausages, salumi and regional specialties.
The butcher looks up and smiles:
“Buongiorno! Che cosa desidera?”
Good morning! What would you like?
For one second, your mind goes blank.
Then you remember:
“Vorrei due etti di prosciutto crudo, per favore.”
I would like 200 grams of prosciutto crudo, please.
And just like that…
🎉 YOU ARE SPEAKING ITALIAN.
Join me, Andrea, for a fun, interactive two-hour Italian language tutoring session built around the enormous and fascinating world of carne.
From manzo, maiale, pollo, tacchino, agnello and selvaggina to prosciutto, mortadella, salame, bresaola, ’nduja, cotechino and beyond, we’ll use familiar foods as a bridge into real vocabulary, practical grammar, pronunciation, culture, regional traditions and everyday conversation.
📚 This is a private, contribution-based Italian language tutoring session. Carne is our bridge to culture, language and grammar. This is not a food event or cooking class.
🇮🇹 WHAT WE’LL EXPLORE
🥩 Meet the carne cast — learn useful vocabulary for beef, pork, chicken, turkey, lamb, rabbit, game and more.
🐖 Enter the world of salumi — discover the difference between salume, insaccato and affettato, and meet some of Italy’s most famous cured-meat traditions.
⚖️ Master the magical Italian “etto” — understand how Italians actually buy meat and salumi using un etto, due etti, mezzo chilo and other practical quantities.
🧠 Meet the mighty little word “ne” — one of those tiny Italian words that suddenly makes real conversations sound much more natural:
“Quanto ne vuole?”
How much would you like?
“Ne vorrei due etti.”
I’d like 200 grams of it.
📚 Put grammar to work — practice articles, plurals, partitive articles, present-tense verbs, prepositions, adjective agreement and useful sentence patterns.
❤️ Say what you really think — practice mi piace, mi piacciono, preferisco, and learn how to express preferences naturally.
🔥 Talk about cooking and preparation — learn expressions such as:
alla griglia — grilled
alla brace — over hot coals
al forno — oven-roasted
brasato — braised
arrosto — roasted
impanato — breaded
🥩 Order like a real customer — step into a macelleria, salumeria and trattoria and build practical conversations you could actually use in Italy.
😱 Survive the Two-Kilo Disaster! — because accidentally asking for two kilos instead of two etti is exactly the kind of mistake you want to know how to fix in Italian:
“Scusi! Volevo dire due etti, non due chili!”
Excuse me! I meant 200 grams, not two kilograms!
💶 Take on the €20 Macelleria Mission — build an order, calculate a total and practice the practical language of shopping.
🗺️ Travel through Italy — discover how meat, salumi and food vocabulary change from region to region, from bresaola and speck in the north to arrosticini, ’nduja, porceddu, bombette, capocollo and more.
🏛️ Discover the history inside the food — explore norcineria, old preservation traditions, the Roman quinto quarto, and the history hidden inside Italian culinary vocabulary.
🤌 Learn Italian idioms with some bite — including:
Mettere troppa carne al fuoco
To take on too many things at once.
Né carne né pesce
Neither one thing nor the other.
Avere fegato
To have courage.
Che macello!
What a mess!
Essere carne e unghia
To be inseparable.
😂 Avoid travel traps — find out why peperoni does not mean American pepperoni, why salame becomes salami, and why food words can change meaning depending on where you are in Italy.
✍️ Build your confidence — tackle fill-in-the-blank exercises, translate into Italian, fix suspicious sentences with the Grammar Police, unscramble phrases and create your own real-life dialogue.
🕵️ Become a Regional Carne Detective — solve clues and identify specialties from different parts of Italy.
🔐 Escape from the Macelleria delle Parole — finish with a playful escape-room-style language challenge where grammar, vocabulary, quantities and regional knowledge all come together.
✨ WORDS YOU CAN TAKE TO ITALY
“Vorrei due etti di prosciutto crudo, per favore.”
I would like 200 grams of prosciutto crudo, please.
“Che cosa mi consiglia?”
What do you recommend?
“Quanto ne vuole?”
How much would you like?
“È una specialità locale?”
Is it a local specialty?
“Come si prepara?”
How is it prepared?
“Mi piacciono gli arrosticini.”
I like arrosticini.
And yes — we’ll also investigate why the same Italian food word can mean something slightly different as you travel from one region to another. 🇮🇹🧭

Come curious.
Leave speaking Italian.
“Non serve parlare perfettamente. Serve cominciare.”
You do not need to speak perfectly. You need to begin.
And perhaps the perfect motto for this class:
“Mettiamo un po’ di carne al fuoco… ma non troppa!” 🤌🔥😂
Let’s put a little meat on the fire… but not too much!
Vi aspetto! 🇮🇹🥩✨
