All About Art: Underground Railroad, Not A Subway
Following the viewing, participants will take part in a guided discussion reflecting on the themes of freedom, resilience, and progress, from the early 1800s and the Underground Railroad, to the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, and the Children’s Civil Rights Crusade of 1963. This is a space to ask questions, share thoughts, and consider how history continues to shape our present.
Then, the creativity continues! 🎨
The program is followed by a hands-on puppet design workshop where participants will design and create their own hand puppets inspired by the stories and themes explored in the film. Using simple materials and imaginative techniques, participants will bring their own characters to life encouraging storytelling, self-expression, and deeper engagement with history.
This interactive experience blends art, history, and hands-on making, making it perfect for families, learners, and curious minds of all ages. Come create, reflect, and celebrate, honoring how far we’ve come and inspiring conversations about the work still ahead.
