About this Event
To Celebrate International Day of People with Disability, you are invited to Council's FREE All Abilities Colour Run on Saturday 7 December. The event is based at the Taree Rec Ground behind the Hockey Centre. The run will go around the Criterium Track which is 1.2km long. You can walk, skip, run, wheel or hop around once, or as many times as you like and be like a rainbow. There will be 5 colour stations. If you don't like coloured powder, you can skip these and go through the bubble stations and obstacles around the track. There will be music pumping from Ngarralinyi radio station and a free BBQ after with the help of Taree Rotary. For more detailed information like what to wear and what to expect on the day please see the event FAQ's below.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
What do I bring?
Please feel free to bring sensory toys or headphones for all your sensory needs. There will be sunscreen, water and a free BBQ available. Please bring our own snacks. We recommend wearing a hat and for spectators to bring a chair or a picnic blanket. There is limited shade, groups might like to bring their own marque.
Where is the venue located?
The Colour Run will be held at the Taree Recreation Ground. The event hub will be set up at the back of the Hockey Centre. We will be running, walking or wheeling on the Criterium Cycle Track. Please see map.
Where can I park?
There is plenty of parking at the venue, there is a large car park located near the hockey centre. This is the car park used for access to the netball courts and Saxby’s stadium. You can enter the car park from Bligh St (off Manning River Driver), or Recreations Dr off Gipps St. Please see map.
Wheelchair Access
The venue is wheelchair accessible. There is a path from the carpark all the way to the event hub behind the hockey centre. The event will take place on the Criterium Cycle Track.
There is 1 accessible toilet at the event hub in the hockey centre.
Where can I sit?
Family and friends are welcome to find a spot anywhere along the track where you feel comfortable. We recommend bringing a chair or a picnic blanket.
What will I see and hear during the morning?
When you arrive, there will be loud music playing. The music will be playing throughout the morning.
What can I expect during the colour run?
There will be 5 colour stations around the track. There will be people at each station waiting to throw colour on you if you are wearing a white t-shirt. If you are wearing a coloured t-shirt, they will NOT throw colour on you.
There will be bubble stations around the track for you to run through. If you don’t like bubbles you can go around these.
There will be water guns being used around the course. If you don’t want to be squirted, put your hand up to say no thanks.
There will be adaptive obstacle course activities before some of the colour stations. These are accessible to wheelchairs users.
What should I wear?
While the colour is not supposed to stain, we recommend not wearing your best clothes or shoes.
If you DO want colour thrown on you wear a white t-shirt.
If you DO NOT want colour thrown on your wear a coloured t-shirt, this will let the throwers know not to ‘throw’ colour at you.
Wear sunglasses or goggles to protect your eyes. We will have some glasses available to borrow.
What can you tell me about the coloured powder?
The powder is Australian made and is made from all natural ingredients.
Is the powder gluten free?
No. The powder is made from cornflour using Australian Wheat grain. Technically this is ‘Wheaten Cornflour’ and contains gluten.
What happens if the powder gets in my eyes, mouth, hair or ears?
It may cause a bit of irritation but nothing serious, immediately flush any affected area with water. For eye protection we recommend that people BYO goggles or sunglasses. We will have glasses available on the day to borrow.
Throwers will only aim between the shoulder and hip, doing their best to avoid your face. There will be wipes and water at each colour station if you need to wash or wipe your face or eyes.
Will the powder affect asthmatics?
The colour powder will create a cloud of colour powder in the air, for most people inhaling a small amount of the colour powder as they move through the cloud is not problematic.
However, asthmatics and people with other respiratory issue should use caution, given that it would not be ideal for them to be in any area of floating particulates as this may trigger an autoimmune response.
Preventative measures can be used such as running on the inside of the track away from the colour and wearing a face mask. If you wear a coloured shirt (instead of white), the throwers will know not to throw colour on you.
What happens if it rains on the day?
If the rain is light, we will go ahead. If the rain is heavy the event will be postponed. This will be announced on the MidCoast Council Facebook page.
Who is welcome to come and watch?
Bring your family and friends to join in the fun. Please include the number of people coming with you in your event registration.
