“Eccentric Cinema” was inspired by the groundbreaking L.A. cable station Z Channel and its chief programmer Jerry Harvey. Dedicated to showcasing offbeat films, directors’ cuts, and the more unique mainstream offerings, Harvey resurrected movies that had been cast aside critically, flopped at the box office, or developed cult followings. Adopting that same idea, “Eccentric Cinema” brings you some of the wildest, weirdest, underseen, or most controversial movies, allowing audiences the opportunity to experience these films on the big screen.This November, the high sheriff of Drexel repertory booking is giving the staff free rein to program their favorite cult movies to celebrate their birthdays!
JASON'S BIRTHDAY PICK - ALICE, SWEET ALICE: After her younger sister is brutally killed, Alice (Paula Sheppard, who only starred in one more movie after this before retiring from acting) becomes the prime suspect. She sets out to clear her name but discovers a mystery more twisted than she could have imagined. The film, filled with haunting Catholic imagery, an unsettling atmosphere, and brutal violence, was America’s answer to Italy’s giallos, a subgenre of violent pulp mysteries popularized by the likes of Dario Argento, Mario Bava, and Sergio Martino. Alice, Sweet Alice also features a pre-Blue Lagoon Brooke Shields.
