Topic: "The History of Catholicism in Virginia"Talk description:
Virginia will share about the Jesuit Martyrs of Virginia; the persecution of Catholics in the early days of the colony; the establishment of the Church in the New World; and a saint for our Commonwealth, Frank Parater.
Speaker Bio:
Virginia studied French and Italian at the University of Virginia, but then switched career trajectories and got her masters in Christianity and the Arts at Kings College London. She worked at the John Paul II Shrine Museum in Washington, DC and the Terra Sancta Museum in Jerusalem before coming to Alexandria to put together the new Basilica museum. Now she works as the Basilica’s archivist, and is involved in various projects focusing on the history of Catholicism in Virginia. When she isn’t working at the Basilica, she can be found reading a good book, running on the many trails around Alexandria or getting together with friends for a cup of coffee or a pint of beer, depending on the time of day.
