Alessandro Achilli (University of Cagliari):
Negotiating Languages in Contemporary Ukrainian Poetry from Traditionally Russian-Speaking Areas and Beyond
Sammendrag:
After the 2014 Revolution of Dignity, and even more so after the 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, Ukrainian Russophone and bilingual writers have often been engaged in complex practices of rethinking and renegotiation of their relationship with their own language(s). In my paper, I will explore the many layers and outcomes of these conversations, that range from gradual or abrupt language shifts to various forms of continuous bilingualism. I will devote particular attention to the thematization of language issues in poetic texts, which offer a remarkable range of approaches to an issue that combines literary gestures, individual behaviors, and fraught public debates.
Alessandro Achilli is Associate Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Cagliari. His research interests include modern and contemporary literatures, with a focus on Ukrainian poetry and cultural history. He is the author of a monograph on Vasyl' Stus and several articles on chapters on various aspects of Ukrainian literature and culture, as well as Belarusian literature, Polish literature, Russophone literatures, and comparative literature. He is also active as a literary translator.
Åpent for alle interesserte.
