About this Event

Alejandra Czarny Ensemble

Alejandra Czarny is a singer and songwriter from Buenos Aires, Argentina, now based in South Florida. Her work is grounded in vocal expression and storytelling, weaving together Yiddish song, original compositions, and Latin American musical colors. She has released three albums: Under the White Stars and Songs about Songs, which blend Yiddish repertoire with her own works and collaborations with César Lerner and Marcelo Mogilevsky; and Viene Siendo Tiempo (2018), an album of original songs in Spanish. Her music has been featured in festivals, concert halls, and cultural venues across Europe and the Americas. Alejandra is currently recording Dorem, a new collection of original Yiddish songs infused with South American rhythms and sensibilities. Whether performing solo with voice and guitar or collaborating with other musicians, her singing is marked by intimacy, clarity, and a deep emotional connection with audiences.

The Bashevis Singers

The Bashevis Singers are the children of generations of people who lived their lives in Yiddish. Evie Gawenda is a singer and award-winning theatre director who is known and loved for the beauty and warmth of her voice. She has been singing with her brother Husky since they were children. Husky Gawenda is an award-winning songwriter and his cousin Gideon Preiss is a renowned Australian musician and composer – they are the core members of the critically acclaimed band HUSKY.

The Bashevis Singers have released four stunning albums. They span centuries of Yiddish and have brought to life classic 20th Century folk songs, new compositions based on mystical poetry written by legends of Judaism, and original songs written in collaboration with their father and uncle, journalist and author Michael Gawenda. Yiddish lives and breathes through their voices and melodies.
