About this Event
AA Awareness for Professionals Workshop
Alcohol use disorder doesn’t always look like the stereotypes. It could be a patient, neighbour, or even a family member. Most people struggling with alcohol misuse go unnoticed. Often until it’s too late.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is holding a series of events to raise awareness among professionals, like you, about the impact of alcohol misuse and the free life-changing support available through AA and Al-Anon.
This event is held as part of the Birmingham AA Convention 2026 at the Mercure Birmingham West Hotel, West Bromwich.
Why Attend Should You Attend? NICE Recommends Signposting to AA
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Quality Standard on Alcohol-Use Disorders (QS11) highlights the importance of referring people to community support networks like AA.
Proven Effectiveness
According to the Cochrane Evidence Review, AA is more effective than other therapies for achieving long-term abstinence and recovery. It also helps individuals:
- Boost relapse prevention skills.
- Reduce cravings and impulsivity.
- Enhance recovery motivation.
What’s Happening?
- Discover the Local Support Network: Did you know there are more than 80 AA meetings a week across Birmingham alone? These groups provide a vital lifeline for hundreds of people to regain control of their lives. There is now 24 hour access to meetings online.
- Experience the Power of AA: Attend an example AA meeting and see how it transforms lives. Learn how Al-Anon supports families and loved ones. Hear stories from young people who’ve found hope and recovery.
- Experience the magic of an AA Convention: The workshops are being hosted within our annual Birmingham AA Convention. Before and after the workshop, you will have unique access to the Convention events, including speakers, meetings and literature stands. Soak up the chance to chat to recovered alcoholics and learn more about AA.
- Challenge the Stigma: Understand how alcohol misuse can affect anyone, regardless of age, profession, or background.
