The Long Goodbye II, 2025
Anthotype (blueberry) on watercolour paper
'Losing my mother to Alzheimer’s involved a prolonged experience of anticipatory grief, as memory and identity gradually receded despite continued physical presence. This photograph, taken while lying beside her as she once did for me, undergoes a parallel process of dissolution. Produced using anthotype techniques with pigments derived from blueberries (materially tied to childhood) the image is inherently unstable and susceptible to light. Its gradual fading leaves only the paper substrate, evoking the body without the self. The work engages with impermanence, material fragility, and the slow erosion of memory.'
