About this Event

Alabama Appleseed, in partnership with The Just Trust and its Justice and the Next 250 campaign, as well as Sidewalk Film and Alabama Public Television, is proud to present a two-night event highlighting positive changes in the criminal justice system.

October 7th: A preview of the upcoming PBS documentary series "Crime and Punishment in America," followed by a conversation with Alabama leaders who have been innovators in public safety and criminal justice, working to make the next 250 years more fair and just.

October 8th: A viewing of the award-winning documentary Leaving Angola, a film that "film that follows Justin Singleton — a man serving life without parole — as he forms a powerful bond with Derek Moss, a young father offered early release through a pioneering re‑entry program at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, better known as Angola." The viewing will be followed by a discussion about the state of reentry in the south.

Food from Empower Café, a workforce development program in Workshops Empowerment, Inc., will be provided free of charge to all attendees.
