Get ready to take on the Abul Kalam Design Challenge 2026, where innovation meets real-world engineering! This year’s challenge focuses on designing and building an autonomous external pipe-climbing device 🧗♂️⚙️. Inspired by industrial applications like wire-rope inspection robots and cable installation systems, your machine must climb a vertical pipe, interact with targets, carry and release a load, and return, all without external control once started.Your journey from concept to execution will be assessed through the following key elements:
1. Challenge Execution ⚙️
How efficiently and accurately does your device complete the required climbing, stopping, returning, and load-release operations within the given time?
2. Engineering Design ✨
Does your device meet all technical constraints (size, autonomy, mechanism) while demonstrating innovation, robustness, and practical feasibility?
3. Poster Presentation 🖼️
How clearly does your poster communicate the working principle, design process, and key engineering decisions?
4. Oral Presentation 🎤
Can you confidently explain your system’s design, working mechanism, challenges faced, and real-world applications?
5. Performance Metrics & Scoring 📊
