AISH Prayer Vigil: Dignity, Belonging and Hope
Holding space for those affected by changes to AISH at Knox United Church
Saturday, June 20, at 2:00 pm
As changes to AISH and the new Alberta Disability Assistance Program, ADAP, approach, many Albertans are feeling fear, grief, anxiety, and uncertainty about what these changes may mean for their lives, income, housing, health, and future security.
This prayer vigil is an opportunity to gather in community, hold space for those directly affected, and offer compassion, solidarity, and hope. Together, we will affirm the dignity and worth of all people, and the importance of ensuring that everyone has the support they need to live with security, belonging, and dignity.
Beginning in July, some Albertans who currently receive support through AISH, Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped, will remain on AISH, while others will be transitioned to ADAP. While some people are exempt from the change, many recipients and advocates have raised serious concerns about financial security, employment expectations, and the impact these changes may have on people living with disabilities, chronic illness, and complex barriers.
