A hands-on AI PD day for educators. Explore the tools, build practical skills and discover new ways to teach, plan and work.
About this Event

This generation is growing up with AI. They're already in the club - let's teach them to use it well.
A practical professional learning day for teachers and school leaders

AI is already changing how students learn, teachers work and schools approach assessment and curriculum. The challenge now is working out how to use it well.

This practical, hands-on PD day will help you build confidence using AI in education — from understanding how it works and setting appropriate boundaries, to using it effectively in the classroom and in your own work.

You’ll explore practical approaches, experiment with useful tools and tackle the bigger questions around student thinking, responsible use and assessment.

And you won’t just leave with ideas. Bring something real from your classroom or school and we’ll help you rethink it with AI in mind — so you leave with something you can actually use.

What you'll explore

By the end of the day, you'll have:

  • A practical understanding of generative AI — what it can do, how it works and where its limitations lie.
  • Greater confidence making decisions about responsible, thoughtful and age-appropriate AI use.
  • Practical approaches for keeping human thinking and learning at the centre when students use AI.
  • Ideas for establishing clear expectations, boundaries and shared agreements around AI use.
  • Strategies for responding when AI is used inappropriately or without disclosure.
  • Experience with AI tools that can support planning, differentiation, resource creation, feedback, communication and everyday teacher workflows.
  • A real piece of work from your own classroom or school that you've started to redesign, update or improve with AI in mind.

The Day
9:00–9:20 | AI is Here. What Do We Do With It?

We begin with the questions schools are facing right now.

Where can AI genuinely add value to teaching and learning? Where should we be cautious? What do our students need to understand? And what decisions do schools need to start making?

You'll identify the AI questions and challenges that matter most in your own context and use these to help shape your learning across the day.

9:20–10:30 | AI Fundamentals: What Educators Need to Know

Get a practical introduction to generative AI — without the technical jargon.

Explore how generative AI works, what it does well, where it falls short and why human judgement remains essential.

We'll also begin considering what responsible, thoughtful and age-appropriate AI use looks like in schools, including the role of policies, expectations and boundaries.

10:30–10:50 | Morning Tea
10:50–12:15 | The AI-Ready Classroom

What does good AI use actually look like in the classroom?

We'll explore practical and creative ways students can use AI while keeping learning and thinking at the centre.

We'll tackle some of the harder questions too: When should students use AI — and when shouldn't they? How do we stop AI from doing the thinking for them? What does appropriate use look like at different ages and for different tasks? And how might assessment need to change?

We'll also explore how schools can establish shared expectations and agreements around AI use, communicate clear boundaries and respond when AI is used inappropriately or without disclosure.

12:15–1:00 | Lunch
1:00–1:50 | AI for Educators: Work Smarter, Teach Better

Now we turn the focus to your own work.

Explore AI tools and practical techniques that can support lesson and unit planning, differentiation, resource development, feedback, communication and everyday teacher workflows.

1:50–2:05 | Afternoon Tea
2:05–3:15 | AI in Action: Bring Something Real

This is where you'll put the day's learning into practice.

Bring something from your own classroom or school — an assessment, unit of work, classroom activity, policy, AI-use agreement or even an everyday workflow.

With support from the GenAI Club team, you'll work on redesigning, updating or improving it with AI in mind.

3:15–3:30 | From Ideas to Action

We'll finish by bringing the learning together and identifying what comes next.

What will you do differently? What conversations need to happen back at school? And what's one practical change you can make now?

You'll leave with greater confidence navigating AI in education, something tangible you've worked on, and a clearer sense of the next steps for your classroom or school.

Who is this day for?

This professional learning day is designed for primary and secondary educators at all stages of their AI journey, including classroom teachers, curriculum and learning leaders, Heads of Department, digital learning and innovation leaders, school leadership teams and educators responsible for assessment or AI policy.

You don't need to be an AI expert — and you don't need to have all the answers.

The day is designed to help you build the understanding, practical experience and confidence to make better decisions about AI in your own educational context.

What to bring

Bring your laptop and one real piece of work you'd like to rethink with AI in mind.

That might be an assessment task, lesson or unit of work, classroom activity, school AI policy or guidelines, student AI-use agreement, or a regular planning or administrative task you'd like to improve.

You'll use it during the afternoon workshop and leave with practical progress already made.
