Assess AI use cases for WA government, considering value, risk, accountability and readiness, with a practical decision log to take away.
About this Event

Before a government AI idea moves forward, you need to know its value, risks, accountability, and readiness.

For WA public-sector and local-government teams, assessing an AI use case involves more than asking whether a tool can do the job. You also need to consider public value, privacy, risk, accountability, governance, and whether the use case is ready to progress.

This practical lab gives leaders and decision-makers a structured way to assess AI opportunities using realistic public-sector scenarios. You will work through a use case, evaluate its potential and risks, and build a clear decision record you can adapt to your own organisation.

Who this is for

This session is designed for:

  • Public-sector and local-government executives
  • Board and governance leaders
  • Risk and compliance professionals
  • Privacy and data professionals
  • Digital and transformation teams
  • Leaders involved in assessing or approving AI use cases

No technical background is required.

What we will do together
  • Define the use case: Clarify the problem, intended outcome, users, and business or public value before considering the technology.
  • Assess value and feasibility: Examine whether the proposed AI use case is practical, worthwhile, and suitable for the organisation.
  • Identify risks and safeguards: Consider privacy, data, operational, reputational, and accountability risks and what controls may be needed.
  • Set accountability: Identify who owns the use case, who reviews it, and where human decision-making must remain.
  • Assess scale readiness: Consider what needs to be in place before moving from a small experiment to broader use.
  • Create a decision record: Capture the assessment, evidence, risks, and recommended next steps in a practical format.

What you will take home
  • A Public-Sector AI Use-Case Assessment
  • A practical AI Decision Log
  • A Responsible AI Integration Checklist
  • Clear next steps for progressing or reviewing your AI use case

Good to know

Please bring your laptop for the practical activities. You may bring a general AI use case or business challenge from your organisation, but do not use confidential, personal, or sensitive information during the session. No previous AI experience is required. This is a practical professional development session and does not provide legal, compliance, or policy advice.
