Independent feature filmmaker, Zoe Quist, (Mining for Ruby, Glitched) speaks about her most recent project “Glitched” and the workflow with the Visual Effects Team in generating AI enhancements for the film. About our Speakers
Zoe Quist
Zoe Quist, a Fairbanks-born director and producer, is known for genre-bending narratives with emotional depth, innovative storytelling, and striking visuals. Her latest feature, GLITCHED, a paranormal sci-fi comedy shot in Ireland, won Best Feature Director at the La Femme International Film Festival.
Quist directed the dark thriller RAW CUT and the romantic drama MINING FOR RUBY (in a partnership with UAF), starring Billy Zane, Mischa Barton, and Jonathan Bennett. It reached the top 30 on the iTunes Romantic Drama chart.
Her versatile work includes independent features, music videos, comedy pilots, and shorts, such as the action-comedy INSANE JANE, a Netflix Mini-Upfront finalist.
A pioneer in innovative filmmaking, Quist is an early adopter of artificial intelligence as a creative collaborator. She integrates AI tools into development and post-production to enhance efficiency and unlock new possibilities, while always amplifying human artistry rather than replacing it. She is currently developing the AI-enhanced animated series.
Miho Aoki
Miho Aoki studied digital art and animation at the Advanced Computing Center for Arts and Design and received a Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio State University. Her works have been exhibited at the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, University of Alaska Museum of the North, and other art galleries. She also produces computer-generated animations for art performances and educational videos.
Eduardo Wilner
Dr. Eduardo Wilner holds a Licenciature (am European degree comparable to a Honors Bachelor in the US) in the Biological Sciences, a M.Sc. in Zoology, an M.A. in the Philosophy of Science, an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Biology and the Philosophy of Biology. He is now an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Philosophy & Humanities at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Seumas Knight
Seamus is a performer, cellist and sound designer. As stage actor, his favorite roles have included Augustus/Gus in Concord Theatre Players’ “Arcadia” by Tom Stoppard, and Ralph in Fourth Wall Stage Company’s “Awake and Sing.” He has composed film scores for ‘One World is Writing’ (Her Republic Films, 2021), and ‘Strange Embrace’ (Theatre & Film UAF, 2024). Seamus is a Film & Music student at UAF, where he has lighting designed three main stage productions and is the President of the Student Drama Association. He works as an editor for FRAME productions under Dpt. Chair Maya Salganek.
Theatre & Film at UAF
The UAF Department of Theatre and Film fosters creativity, collaboration and storytelling through hands-on learning in performance and production. Students gain experience in acting, directing, design and filmmaking while developing the technical and artistic skills needed for careers in the media and performing arts. With opportunities to work on stage productions and film projects, the department prepares students to create meaningful, culturally relevant work that resonates both in Alaska and beyond.
