About this Event
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of the operating environment for social enterprises. Funding bodies are referencing it, people are experimenting with it, teams are asking questions about it.
If you are involved in running a social enterprise, you may already sense that AI has potential relevance to your work. At the same time, you may feel uncertain about what it actually is, what it can realistically do, and how to approach it responsibly within a social impact context.
There is significant noise surrounding AI, alongside valid concerns about accuracy, hallucinations, data protection, ethics and environmental impact. For social enterprises working with vulnerable communities or sensitive information, these questions matter. Without a clear foundation, it can feel difficult to move forward with confidence.
AI For Good has been designed to provide that foundation.
This three-hour, hands-on workshop offers a structured and reassuring introduction to AI for beginners. It is aimed at people with little or no prior experience and is limited to 15 participants to ensure a practical, collaborative environment.
The session begins by building a shared understanding of artificial intelligence. We will explore what AI is, what it does well, where its limits lie, and the main types of tools currently available. We will also consider the human skills that remain essential when working with AI intentionally and productively.
Importantly, we will address common concerns directly, including hallucinations, data protection and environmental impact, with particular reference to organisations delivering social value.
The second part of the workshop focuses on practical application.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of prompting and then build a simple AI assistant designed to support a real challenge from their own organisation or role. This may relate to planning, idea generation, structured questioning, drafting, or internal problem-solving. The intention is that you leave with something immediately useful, alongside a clearer understanding of how to develop and refine it further.
The format is interactive and collaborative. Participants will work in small groups, discuss ideas, share reflections, and practise using tools in real time. The emphasis is on practical skills that can be applied the very next day within a social enterprise setting.
Choosing not to engage with AI at all may gradually widen the gap between your social enterprise and the tools shaping the wider economy. Adopting it without understanding may introduce unnecessary risk or unrealistic expectations. This workshop offers a balanced approach: informed, thoughtful and grounded in real-world use.
Please bring your laptop.
As part of the booking process, you will be asked to complete a short survey to help us understand your baseline knowledge and ensure the session is pitched appropriately for the group.
If you would like to develop a clear and responsible understanding of AI, and explore how it can amplify your social enterprises impact without compromising your values, we invite you to secure your place. Spaces are limited and early booking is recommended.
