Curious about AI but not sure where to start?
IT Professional Trevor Roe will guide you through a FREE 6-part introductory series, AI Essentials, exploring what artificial intelligence is, how it works, and what it means for your everyday life.
Sessions run 5:00–6:15 pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, October 2026 through March 2027, and each combines a presentation with live demos and hands-on practice so you can learn by doing, not just listening.
The series builds progressively: the first three sessions lay the groundwork: covering how AI actually learns, the rise of chatbots and language models, and the leap to autonomous "agents" that can plan and act on their own, giving you the knowledge base you'll need for the second half of the series which turns to AI's real-world impact, its limitations and risks, and where the technology is headed.
Participants are encouraged to attend the full series for the most complete experience, as each session covers distinct material. Each session requires its own registration, which opens 3 weeks prior!
Part 1 (Oct. 21) kicks things off with the fundamentals of traditional AI: how machines "learn", key terminology and concepts, an introduction to chatbots, and hands-on practice with large language models like ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
Topics covered in this series:
What is Machine Learning, and how does it work? (Basics & key vocabulary)
Traditional AI vs. Agentic AI
