AI Data Centre Town Hall
About this Event
This town hall aims to bring together researchers and community members to discuss concerns around AI technology and data centre projects in Vancouver. We want to facilitate strategy sharing for community involvement and increasing transparency in the shaping of Canada’s AI policy and regulation.
We have an inspirational line-up of speakers representing No AI Vancouver, Parents for AI Caution in Educational Spaces (PACES) Vancouver, Vancouver Tenants Union, COPE Vancouver, and more! There will be a presentation portion followed by networking with refreshments.
Our goal is to create an accessible forum where friends, family, and the broader public can bring their questions, learn from work being done, and strengthen ongoing community organizing. The discussion will also help shape SFU Institute for the Humanities' upcoming lecture series, which will examine the political dimensions of technology, the material conditions that enable AI, and forms of resistance.
Parking Instructions
Due to limited parking spaces around the venue, we encourage the use of public transit or alternative transportation. Otherwise, there is no-time-limit and free parking on the south side of Alexander St and on Jackson Ave. 2 hour free parking is available on the north side of Alexander St. There is paid parking 1 block away from venue.
If you are a senior or disabled individual in need of accessible underground parking spot at the venue, please contact [email protected]. Spots are available on a first-come first-serve basis.
Moderators
The event will be moderated by Department of Global Humanities Professors Samir Gandesha and Adrian Ivakhiv. Samir Gandesha is Director of SFU's Institute for the Humanities. Adrian Ivakhiv is J. S. Woodsworth Chair in the Humanities.
About No AI Vancouver
No AI Vancouver is a non-profit civic organization founded by local university student Torin Larocque. Their mission is to halt the construction of two Telus data centres in Vancouver, as well as support the wider effort to halt data centre expansion across Canada.
